Occupation Forces Besiege Al-Awda Hospital in Northern Gaza

Gaza: Director-General of the Al-Awda Health and Community Association in the Gaza Strip, Raafat Al Majdalawi, reported that the Israeli shelling of Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza has ignited a fire in the hospital's medicine warehouse, posing a risk of spreading to other critical areas within the facility. The artillery shelling by occupation forces targeted two floors of the hospital in Tal al-Zaatar, and vehicles stormed the hospital grounds, opening heavy fire at medical tents and fuel tanks.

According to Qatar News Agency, the continuous shelling by Israeli military vehicles has trapped medical staff inside the hospital due to the siege. The main access road to the hospital has been obstructed by debris from ongoing shelling. Efforts by hospital crews to contain the fire have been hampered by a lack of resources, as Israeli tanks maintain a blockade.

Al Majdalawi has confirmed that the Al-Awda Association is actively communicating with organizations such as the World Health Organization, the International Red Cross, and the Palestinian NGO Network to seek assistance. He urged these parties to pressure occupation forces to allow Al-Awda crews to manage the situation and enable civil defense teams to access the hospital to control the fire.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has called for immediate access to the hospital for the protection of patients and staff. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network has made an urgent appeal for international intervention to halt attacks on hospitals in Gaza and allow firefighting teams to reach Al-Awda Hospital.

The ongoing Israeli blockade is exacerbating the health crisis in Gaza, as medical supplies remain restricted, and the targeting of medical personnel persists. The appeal highlights the dire situation at Al-Awda Hospital, where the fire continues to spread, damaging essential infrastructure and leaving the hospital incapacitated, alongside other hospitals in the region.
