Nato: Nato announced that it has begun planning a new mission to bolster security in the Arctic. Spokesperson for NATO's Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Colonel Martin O'Donnell, stated that planning is underway for an Arctic Sentry mission. He emphasized that the operation will enhance NATO's presence in the Arctic and far northern regions.
According to Qatar News Agency, this mission is similar to those launched in the Baltic Sea or on NATO's eastern flank. It is one of the options being considered to enhance security in the Arctic region. This development is one of the factors that led the US president to announce his intention to annex Greenland. However, Trump later announced that he had ruled out the possibility of forcibly seizing the Arctic island, which is a self-governing territory of Denmark and a NATO member.
Trump indicated that he had reached a framework for an agreement with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
