National Development Forum Highlights Efforts to Foster Family Cohesion and Cultural Identity

Doha: HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani emphasized the pivotal role of the family as the foundational unit for nation-building, underscoring the principles of rights and responsibilities as key to societal stability and growth.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Minister highlighted the Ministry of Culture's focus on youth through various programs, including those accompanying the Doha International Book Fair. This event features a dedicated section for young readers, providing publishers and content that cater to children's needs with meaningful messages. He also noted the success of a photography festival where a talented Qatari child under the age of ten won an award, illustrating the potential of cultural programs in showcasing emerging talent and promoting Qatari identity through art and culture.

The Minister elaborated on the Ministry's integrated approach to supporting young people, citing initiatives like the "Little Writer" program, which teaches storytelling skills and has gained popularity among citizens and residents alike. He affirmed that national identity serves as the "safeguard of society," unifying individuals within a geographic framework. This identity includes attire, food, lifestyle, and ways of thinking. He emphasized that identity encompasses both citizens and residents, as Qatar is historically open and internationally respected for its mediation efforts.

The Minister stressed the importance of residents as essential partners in Qatar's success, highlighting the collaborative effort between all members of society as a key to the nation's progress. He pointed out that the Ministry is committed to reinforcing identity in all its activities, with upcoming National Day celebrations aimed at enhancing pride in national identity while maintaining respect for other identities to promote social harmony.

Discussing the preservation of the Arabic language, the Minister noted that Qatar is unique in having a law dedicated to safeguarding Arabic, reflecting the leadership's commitment to the language as fundamental to national identity. He detailed the Ministry's extensive work to preserve Arabic among the young through programs such as "The Little Writer," activities at the Book Fair, and efforts by the Nomas Center. He emphasized the family's role in this endeavor, urging families to speak Arabic at home, and shared the responsibility with the government in promoting Arabic among young people.
