Cape canaveral: US space agency NASA announced that Blue Origin has launched its rocket New Glenn on its first mission, carrying two satellites on their way to Mars and successfully achieving the landing of the first stage.
According to Qatar News Agency, the rocket stands as tall as a 17-story building, and it carried two NASA satellites on a 22-month journey toward Mars. The two satellites, equipped with scientific instruments from the University of California, Berkeley, are tasked with entering two synchronized elliptical orbits around Mars in 2027. Their mission is to monitor how the solar wind interacts with the planet's magnetic field and to analyze how Mars gradually lost its atmosphere over the ages.
NASA noted that this data will help scientists understand how Mars transformed from a warm, wet planet into a cold, barren desert. This launch marks the first commercial mission of the New Glenn rocket, following its initial launch last January.
