Morocco Qualifies for CHAN Final After Penalty Shootout Win Over Senegal

Kampala: The Moroccan national team has secured a spot in the final of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for local players after defeating Senegal 5-3 in a penalty shootout during the semifinal held at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda. The match ended 1-1 after regular and extra time.

According to Qatar News Agency, Senegal opened the scoring through Joseph Layousse in the 16th minute, while Morocco equalized via Sabir Bougrine in the 23rd minute. In the shootout, Morocco converted all five penalties, while Senegal managed only three.

Morocco will face Madagascar in the final, after the latter edged Sudan 1-0 in their semifinal match held in Tanzania.

Morocco previously won the CHAN title in 2018 and 2020, while Senegal were the reigning champions from the 2023 edition. The 11th edition of the tournament is being hosted across Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
