Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Hosts Experts from UN Industrial Development Organization

Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Department of Chemicals and Hazardous Waste, hosted a team of experts from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) during a series of coordination meetings held from July 27 to 29.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meetings were part of Qatar's ongoing efforts to protect the ozone layer and meet its international environmental obligations. The visit aimed to monitor the progress of the HCFC Phase-out Management Plan and review control mechanisms for the trade of environmentally harmful substances, particularly in the refrigeration and air-conditioning sectors.

The agenda included discussions with companies importing these substances and coordination sessions with officials from the General Authority of Customs. These meetings were intended to strengthen regulatory procedures and ensure compliance with international agreements, while maintaining environmental safety standards.

The visit aligns with Qatar's commitments under the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. It also reinforces cooperation with relevant international organizations.

The Ministry emphasized that these engagements demonstrate the country's dedication to fulfilling its environmental responsibilities and supporting global efforts to preserve the ozone layer and combat climate change.
