Mediterranean Diet Reduces Risk of Dementia – Study

Seoul: A new study conducted by researchers at Yonsei University in South Korea has revealed that adherence to the Mediterranean diet significantly reduces the risk of dementia, a disease that causes memory loss and thinking skills.

According to Qatar News Agency, the study featured four healthy diets, including the Mediterranean diet, which is based on eating vegetables, fruits, nuts, and whole grains, while minimizing meat and fried foods. The study, which followed more than 131,000 people aged 40 to 69 for 13.5 years, showed that adherence to these healthy diets was associated with a 21 to 28 percent lower risk of dementia.

Conversely, the results showed that diets that increase inflammation in the body were associated with a 30 percent higher risk of dementia. The researchers emphasized that these results were stronger among older adults and women, and that some obese individuals may be differently affected by diet.

It's worth noting that paying attention to your diet is a preventative measure against dementia, especially given the lack of a definitive cure for this disease.
