Malnutrition in Gaza Grew Threefold, UNRWA Says

Gaza: Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini revealed that cases of malnutrition among children in the Gaza Strip have tripled in less than six months. He noted that UNRWA teams have conducted malnutrition screenings for nearly 100,000 children under the age of five in the Strip since March.

According to Qatar News Agency, Lazzarini said that this situation is not the result of a natural disaster but of man-made starvation that could have been prevented. He stressed that aid organizations have been barred for six months from bringing supplies into the besieged territory.

The UNRWA Commissioner-General emphasized the urgent need for Israel to allow the passage of life-saving assistance through UNRWA and other humanitarian organizations into Gaza.
