Beirut: Lebanon's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Youssef Raji, discussed in a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, the situation in Lebanon and the region. Both ministers highlighted the role performed by the security quintet that emerged from the Amman meeting, which will be tasked with coordinating and formulating mechanisms for counter-terrorism cooperation, combating narcotics and arms smuggling, as well as transnational organized crime.
According to Qatar News Agency, Raji also spoke on the phone with the Minister for the Middle East and North Africa at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Hamish Falconer, to discuss the latest developments in southern Lebanon. He also discussed the Syrian refugee issue and the potential role the UK could play in finding a resolution to this issue and facilitating the return of refugees to Syria as soon as possible.
Raji reiterated his call for pressuring the Israeli entity into the unconditional pullback immediately from the Lebanese territories it occupies.
