Beirut: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun called on the international community Friday to pressure Israel to abide by the ceasefire agreement, implement its provisions, and cease its violations. During his meeting with German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul in Beirut, the Lebanese president emphasized that Israel has not responded to repeated calls to halt its attacks. This places a responsibility on the international community to support Lebanon's position, which calls for achieving security and stability.
According to Qatar News Agency, he noted that Beirut chose negotiation to regain its occupied land, secure the release of prisoners, and achieve a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Lebanese hills. However, this option has been met by Israel with further attacks in the south and the Bekaa Valley. He added that Lebanon welcomes any support for the army and the provision of necessary resources to enable it to fully carry out its role in preserving Lebanese sovereignty.
He affirmed that the number of army personnel in the south will increase to ten thousand soldiers before the end of the year. For his part, the German minister affirmed his country's continued support for Lebanon in various fields, particularly for the measures taken by the Lebanese government to strengthen its sovereignty over Lebanese territories and enable the army to extend its authority.
He reiterated the call for respect for relevant international resolutions that guarantee respect for Lebanese sovereignty, emphasizing his country's support for the international forces operating in southern Lebanon and Germany's participation in the naval force serving there.
