Lebanese Government Affirms Commitment to Ceasefire Agreement with Israeli Entity

Doha: Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced his country's commitment to the ceasefire agreement with the Israeli entity until February 18. The Lebanese government, through a statement, emphasized the importance of maintaining Lebanon's sovereignty and security, highlighting its focus on adhering to the terms of the ceasefire agreement and implementing Security Council Resolution 1701.

According to Qatar News Agency, the statement further detailed that, at the behest of the Lebanese government, the United States will commence negotiations for the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after October 7, 2023. The White House had previously communicated that the agreement between Lebanon and the Israeli entity, under U.S. supervision, will remain effective until February 18, 2025.

Additionally, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry has urged the nations sponsoring the ceasefire to exert pressure on the Israeli entity for an immediate and unconditional withdrawal from all occupied territories. This withdrawal is deemed essential for the Lebanese armed forces to fully establish their control over the southern Lebanese territory.
