Kuwait city: The State of Kuwait has once again dispatched two identical letters to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN Security Council regarding the developments in the Iranian aggression that has been continuing against Kuwait since February 28. A statement by the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry on Tuesday reported that the two letters highlight the armed aggression Kuwait has been exposed to from Iran, involving ballistic missiles and drones targeting its territory and airspace, constituting a breach of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to Qatar News Agency, the acts by Iran represent a violation of the Charter of the United Nations, particularly the principle prohibiting the use of force as outlined in Article 2, paragraph 4 of the UN Charter. This escalation is seen as undermining regional and global peace and contradicts the principles of good neighborliness. Despite Kuwait not being a party to any conflict in the region, the letters assert the unprovoked nature of this aggression and emphasize that the attacks targeted military bases, critical facilities, and civilian infrastructure. The Kuwaiti armed forces successfully countered most of these attacks, which included targeting civilian facilities such as Kuwait International Airport and fuel tanks.
The letters stress that targeting these facilities violates international rules-based order and international humanitarian law, which protect civilian facilities and infrastructure. Since the recent dispatch of the two letters on March 3, 2026, two members of the General Directorate of Land Border Security have been martyred, increasing the total number of martyred Kuwaiti personnel to four. The statement also addressed the targeting of the United States Embassy in Kuwait as a violation of international law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, with 234 missiles and 422 drones targeting Kuwait since February 28.
The statement reiterated Kuwait's right to self-defense based on Article 51 of the UN Charter to protect its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people. It called on the Security Council to take measures to halt the aggression and hold Iran accountable for the human casualties and damages resulting from these acts.
