Italy’s Sinner Claims First Wimbledon Title

Doha: Italy's Jannik Sinner, the world No. 1, won his first-ever Wimbledon title today after defeating Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, the two-time defending champion, in four sets. After dropping the first set 4-6, Sinner mounted a strong comeback to win the next three sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, sealing victory in a match that lasted 3 hours and 4 minutes.

According to Qatar News Agency, the 23-year-old claimed his fourth Grand Slam title and made history as the first Italian player to win the Wimbledon men's singles crown. This victory marks Sinner's fifth win over Alcaraz in their 13 head-to-head encounters and brought an end to the Spaniard's 20-match winning streak at Wimbledon, which had stretched back to the fourth round of the 2022 edition, when he also lost to Sinner.

Alcaraz's 24-match winning streak this season, which began in Rome and extended through Roland Garros, Queen's Club, and into Wimbledon, also came to an end.
