Tel aviv: The security cabinet has sanctioned a strategic initiative to assume control over the beleaguered city of Gaza, alongside broadening military operations across other cities and refugee camps within the Strip. These areas are already grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis and extensive destruction following 22 months of ongoing conflict.
According to Qatar News Agency, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement indicating that the Israeli army is gearing up to seize control of Gaza City. Reports from Hebrew media confirm that the Cabinet gave the green light to Netanyahu's proposal after a marathon meeting lasting ten hours.
This resolution was reached just hours after Netanyahu reiterated his intention to seize control of the Strip in an interview with Fox News, emphasizing that the goal was to control but not govern the area. Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli forces have been executing a comprehensive assault on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of 61,258 Palestinians, injuries to 152,045 others, and over 9,000 missing. The ongoing conflict has also caused massive displacement, with hundreds of thousands facing famine, including scores of children.
