Baghdad: Iraq is taking significant steps to enhance its air defense capabilities by forging several contracts with countries that have advanced air defense technology, including South Korea. The Director of the Media and Moral Guidance Directorate at the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. Tahseen Al Khafaji, stated that these efforts are part of Iraq's plan to expand its combat aircraft stockpile.
According to Qatar News Agency, there is a special relationship between South Korea and Iraq, with a detailed schedule in place for the delivery of air defense systems to Iraq over the next year. This strategic partnership aims to bolster Iraq's defense infrastructure.
Al Khafaji emphasized Iraq's ambition to increase its aircraft stockpile, while noting that the current stockpile is sufficient. However, Iraq aims to acquire versatile combat aircraft to strengthen the capabilities of the Air Force Command and meet various operational requirements.
