Iraq, IRENA Discuss Enhancing Cooperation

Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Director-General Francesco La Camera discussed ways to boost bilateral cooperation. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting included a review of the assessment report on Iraq's energy transition. This report, prepared by IRENA in cooperation with Iraqi sectoral authorities, serves as a guide for identifying national priorities in renewable energy. Prime Minister Al Sudani articulated Iraq's commitment to diversifying its energy sector and reducing emissions as part of the government's vision for economic and environmental transformation.

Al Sudani emphasized Iraq's interest in strengthening ties with IRENA by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and implementing joint programs aimed at building capacity and developing clean energy projects. La Camera praised the Iraqi government and its relevant ministries for their cooperation in preparing the assessment report. The IRENA Director-General underscored the importance of translating the findings of the report into practical actions and projects.
