Doha: The high-level meeting for Least Developed Countries began today with the presence of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Fund for Development, HE Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al-Thani, alongside several distinguished officials. HE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, delivered the opening address, emphasizing the critical juncture at which developing countries currently stand. Despite facing significant challenges, these countries hold opportunities that can be transformed into substantial achievements given the right partnerships, sufficient financing, and a supportive international environment.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al-Misnad highlighted that international documents have made it clear that these challenges are not predetermined but instead offer a chance to renew commitments, build capacities, strengthen infrastructure, and facilitate technology transfer. Innovation, she asserted, is essential for development, whether through digital transformation, human resource advancement, or innovative financing solutions. Traditional policies, she noted, are insufficient in addressing the needs of the least developed countries, and innovation is key to unlocking their developmental potential.
Dr. Al-Misnad further emphasized that multilateral cooperation is fundamental to success, as sustainable development requires a shared international vision, equitable financing, and effective institutions. She reiterated Qatar's ongoing support for the United Nations' initiatives and programs aimed at assisting the least developed countries.
The Minister expressed Qatar's belief in the promising potential of these countries and the importance of investing in them, enabling digital transformation, and enhancing capacity-building as vital components for achieving sustainable progress. She envisioned a future where least developed countries are active and effective participants in the global economy, ensuring no one is left behind. Today's meeting, she noted, represents a crucial step toward realizing this vision.
In conclusion, HE the Minister of State for International Cooperation expressed Qatar's confidence in the outcomes of this meeting and reaffirmed the nation's commitment to international partnerships that support the least developed countries.
