Head of UNSMIL Outlines New Roadmap to Resolve Libyan Crisis

Tripoli: Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and Special Representative of the Secretary-General Hanna Tetteh presented to the President of the Libyan High Council of State Mohamed Takala the outlines of the new UN roadmap she intends to submit to the UN Security Council in the coming days to resolve the country's political crisis.

According to Qatar News Agency, a statement from the High Council of State said the meeting, held at its headquarters in Tripoli, addressed the broad outlines of the roadmap that Tetteh will present in her upcoming briefing to the Security Council on August 21. The roadmap aims to break the political deadlock, support dialogue between Libyan parties, and establish a legal and constitutional basis that will pave the way for free and transparent elections that are acceptable to all. No further details were revealed.

During the meeting, Takala affirmed his commitment to supporting any dialogue process that achieves stability and enhances national participation, emphasizing the importance of the political process being entirely Libyan-led and contributing to achieving stability and prosperity in the country.

In late July, Tetteh conducted international and regional tours to mobilize support for the upcoming roadmap, as part of years of UN efforts to push Libya toward elections that would end the political division.
