Doha: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) condemned in the strongest terms the targeting of a humanitarian convoy near Mellit in North Darfur, Sudan.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Council's Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi emphasized the necessity of protecting civilians and humanitarian personnel from the impacts of conflict. He urged strict adherence to international and humanitarian laws that prohibit the targeting of aid and relief supplies. Al Budaiwi also highlighted the importance of respecting the sanctity of humanitarian and relief work to ensure that aid reaches those in need without obstacles or risks.
Al Budaiwi further stated that targeting humanitarian convoys represents a violation of international laws and norms, hindering efforts to achieve security and stability in Darfur and throughout Sudan.
