Doha: The Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, recently held a roundtable focusing on the exchange of best practices to combat violence against women and girls. This event was part of the activities under the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
According to Qatar News Agency, the roundtable was attended by HE Sarah Abdullah Al Saadi, the Acting Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with several ambassadors, representatives of diplomatic missions accredited to the State, and relevant national entities. The discussion centered on the challenges that persist in the fight against violence towards women, despite legislative progress. The event aimed to enhance international and regional dialogue, share successful experiences, and build partnerships to support prevention, protection, and empowerment efforts.
Key topics addressed during the roundtable included the global nature of violence against women, national and international policies, combating cybercrimes against women, and practical measures to strengthen protection in both physical and digital spaces. Participants highlighted the significance of joint action and the role played by the State of Qatar in supporting global efforts to end violence against women and girls.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual campaign led by the United Nations. It commences on November 25, aligning with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and concludes on December 10, Human Rights Day. The campaign seeks to raise awareness and mobilize efforts at both international and national levels to terminate all forms of gender-based violence against women and girls, with a focus on awareness, policy, and legal activities, including addressing the rise of digital violence.
