Doha: Four people were killed, and others went missing Tuesday following a powerful flow of water from a mountain towards Dharali Village, in the Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India. Prashant Arya, the administrative official in the area, stated that the waters swept through about ten hotels while several shops collapsed, adding that rescue teams, accompanied by the Indian military and Police, continued their search for the missing.
According to Qatar News Agency, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of India reported that it has requested three helicopters from the Union Government of India to assist in rescue and relief operations, while rescue teams struggle to reach the remote and rugged areas.
NDMA also expects heavy rainfall to continue in the region over the coming days. The authorities have called on schools in several areas, including the cities of Dehradun and Haridwar, to remain closed.
The heavy monsoon season in India extends from June until September every year, during which heavy rains often cause significant destruction and claim many lives.
