Doha: Spaniard head coach of the Syrian national football team Jose Lana expressed his satisfaction with the team's qualification for the group stage of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, following their 2-0 victory over South Sudan in the qualifying playoff.
According to Qatar News Agency, Lana said he was pleased with the team's performance during the match held at Grand Hamad Stadium, noting that while the game was challenging, the team could have performed even better. He acknowledged that both sides played cautiously, which shaped the overall rhythm of the match.
Looking ahead to Syria's opening group-stage match against Tunisia on December 1 at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Lana commented that they will prepare for the upcoming match differently, knowing it will be a tough task. He mentioned they are awaiting the return of several players who missed the previous game against South Sudan. He expressed hope to have a full squad ready before facing Tunisia to be in the best possible condition.
He added that each match has its own dynamics and challenges, and that all members of the team are eager to make a strong impression in the tournament and bring joy to the Syrian fans, who showed great support during the South Sudan match.
Assistant coach Anas Sabouni also praised the team's performance, emphasizing that the most important outcome was securing qualification to the group stage. He noted that competitions of this nature have a unique character and intensity. Sabouni highlighted the difficulty of the upcoming match against Tunisia, stating that the coaching staff will thoroughly analyze their opponent, which boasts a wealth of experience and includes several players from the senior national team.
