Zurich: FIFA's referees committee announced today the list of referees who will officiate matches in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Chile from Sep. 27 to Oct. 19, 2025.
According to Qatar News Agency, the list includes 54 referees from 22 national associations, consisting of 18 main referees and 36 assistant referees. They were selected based on their performances in international and domestic competitions in recent years.
This edition of the tournament will feature the Football Video Support (FVS) system in all matches. FVS is an alternative to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology and operates through a challenge-based mechanism. Coaches will be allowed a limited number of review requests in critical decision-making scenarios, such as goals, penalty kicks, straight red cards, or cases of mistaken identity.
