Extraordinary Arab Summit to Address Urgent Issues on Gaza Reconstruction and Regional Stability

Doha: Academics and analysts have emphasized the significance of the upcoming Extraordinary Arab Summit, which aims to tackle pressing issues surrounding the reconstruction of Gaza and broader regional stability. The summit is expected to establish a unified Arab stance on the ongoing conflict and reconstruction efforts, requiring decisive actions and strategies to support the Palestinian cause.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Tarek Hamoud, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Lusail University and a researcher at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, highlighted the necessity for the summit to adopt a clear position against the Israeli military actions in Gaza. He stressed the importance of formulating a joint Arab position on displacement plans, particularly concerning their impact on the security and sovereignty of specific Arab countries.

Hamoud detailed that the summit's agenda will focus on the repercussions of the current events in Gaza, ensuring that the discussion remains centered on the Palestinian cause and Israeli actions against Palestinians. Additionally, relevant issues such as Israeli aggression in Syria and displacement projects, like those proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, will be addressed. The summit is expected to cover three main issues: the cessation of the war on Gaza, rejection of displacement projects, and opposition to Israeli actions in Syrian territories.

Dr. Ahmed Qasem Hussein, Managing Editor of Siyasat Arabiya Journal and a researcher at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, stated that the summit aims to present a unified Arab vision supporting Palestinian rights and the reconstruction of Gaza. He noted that the summit would reject any attempts to displace Gaza residents, emphasizing the need for comprehensive reconstruction plans, including those proposed by Egypt, which involve a multi-phase approach to rebuilding and establishing a political path toward a two-state solution.

Hussein also pointed out the need for financial strategies to support reconstruction efforts, estimating a requirement of up to $20 billion in the first three years. He urged Arab and Islamic nations to contribute financially to support Palestinian resilience and counter displacement efforts.

The summit is anticipated to conclude with a unified Arab statement affirming Palestinian rights, approving or amending the Egyptian reconstruction plan, and determining its implementation and financing mechanisms. It will also focus on strengthening Palestinian unity by supporting reconciliation efforts and mobilizing international support for the Palestinian cause and reconstruction initiatives.
