European Stocks Close Higher on Strong Gains in Luxury and Renewable Sectors

European stock indices closed higher on wednesday: The pan-European Stoxx 600 index closed up 0.2 percent. French stocks were among the region's top gainers, rising 1 percent.

According to Qatar News Agency, Paris-listed luxury goods company LVMH, as well as Italy's Moncler and Britain's Burberry, rose by about 4 percent each, providing the biggest boost to the Stoxx 600. Mining-related stocks were the best performing subsector on the Stoxx. The auto sector rose 1.6 percent, and eurozone banks advanced 1.5 percent.

European renewable energy stocks rose after the US Senate passed a revised budget bill that is more favorable to the wind energy sector than the previous version. Vestas' stock jumped 10.1 percent, making it the top gainer on the Stoxx, while Orsted's stock rose 1.8 percent.

A group of UK-listed companies were at the bottom of the Stoxx 600, while the domestic mid-cap index, which is considered more sensitive to domestic developments, fell 1.3 percent.
