EU Defense Ministers Agree to Develop Drone Wall

European union: EU defense ministers agreed Friday to develop a "drone wall" along the bloc's borders with Russia and Ukraine to better detect, track, and intercept drones violating European airspace.

According to Qatar News Agency, European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius emphasized the necessity of a firm, united, and immediate response to what he described as tests by Russia on the EU and NATO. The agreement was reached during a virtual meeting chaired by Kubilius, involving representatives from 10 countries situated on the eastern flank of Europe.

Kubilius mentioned that the construction of the drone wall could take up to a year. He outlined plans for envoys from the concerned countries to convene soon to develop a detailed technical and understanding roadmap for the future. The primary focus will be on establishing an effective detection system to enhance border security.

The decision follows a series of incidents where European borders and airports have been challenged by uncontrolled drones. While Russia has been accused of being involved in some of these incidents, the Kremlin has denied any responsibility for sending the drones or playing any role in the activities.
