Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call today with his Spanish counterpart, Jose Manuel Albares, to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip.
According to Qatar News Agency, both sides emphasized the seriousness of the current situation, highlighting the expansion of Israeli military operations in the occupied Palestinian territories and the unprecedented deterioration of humanitarian conditions, which have reached the level of famine.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister reviewed with his Spanish counterpart the proposed ceasefire deal based on elements put forward by US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. He stressed that the responsibility now lies with the Israeli occupation, noting that the only proposal on the table provides for a 60-day ceasefire.
During this period, negotiations would be held to reach a comprehensive settlement and bring the war to an end, as well as to secure the release of a number of hostages and prisoners and allow the entry of humanitarian and relief aid.
