Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed regional developments and ways to de-escalate tensions, in a phone call with his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Barrot.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a press release today that the two ministers emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to contain tensions and work towards de-escalation to prevent the region from sliding into new waves of instability.
In this context, the Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of advancing political and diplomatic solutions, noting the need to create a conducive environment for resuming dialogue between the United States and Iran regarding the Iranian nuclear program. This dialogue should lead to a comprehensive settlement that takes into account the interests of all parties and supports security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
Regarding developments in Sudan, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a prelude to a comprehensive ceasefire. He stressed the necessity of launching a comprehensive, Sudanese-owned political process.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister briefed his French counterpart on his country’s efforts within the framework of the Quartet Mechanism, stressing the need to establish safe humanitarian corridors to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the Sudanese people without hindrance. He also reiterated Egypt’s firm position in support of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and preserving its national institutions.
