Death Toll Among Palestinian Journalists During Israeli Aggression on Gaza Rises to 231

Gaza: The number of Palestinian journalists killed during the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to 231.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a press statement on Wednesday, the Government Media Office reported the increase in the death toll among journalists since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza. The latest victims include journalist Tamer Al Zaanin, a photojournalist, and journalist Walaa Al Jaabari, a newspaper editor, both of whom were affiliated with multiple media outlets.

Journalist Al Zaanin was killed on Monday in the southern Gaza Strip when an Israeli special forces unit targeted an ambulance and kidnapped Dr. Marwan Al Hams, the director of field hospitals at the Ministry of Health. This incident resulted in the death of Al Zaanin and injuries to the ambulance driver.

The Government Media Office condemned the targeted attacks on Palestinian journalists, accusing the Israeli occupation of systematic violence against media professionals. They appealed to international organizations like the International Federation of Journalists and the Federation of Arab Journalists to denounce these acts.

Responsibility for these actions was attributed to the Israeli occupation, the US administration, and other complicit nations. The media office urged the international community to take action against these crimes and called for the prosecution of those responsible in international courts. They emphasized the need for protection for journalists in Gaza and an end to the killings.

Throughout the aggression, the occupying forces have allegedly focused on journalists and media entities, resulting in injuries to nearly 400 journalists, the arrest of 40, and the destruction of numerous media headquarters. The conflict has also led to the closure of local radio stations due to displacement and lack of resources, including electricity and internet access.
