China: China's Ministry of Commerce announced Friday that it has filed a formal complaint with the World Trade Organization over Canada's restrictions on steel imports and related products. The ministry accused Canada of disregarding WTO rules by imposing quotas on steel imports and applying discriminatory tariffs on goods containing Chinese steel. It described these measures as unilateral and protectionist.
According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry's statement indicated that such policies not only undermine China's legitimate rights and interests but also threaten the stability of global steel production and supply chains. Beijing expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the move.
The ministry urged Canada to immediately withdraw these measures and honor a rules-based multilateral trading system, saying this would help improve economic and trade relations between the two countries.
