Arab Parliament Condemns Israeli Knesset’s Death Penalty Bill Against Palestinians

Doha: The Arab Parliament has condemned the Israeli Knesset's approval in its first reading of a bill that allows the enforcement of the death penalty against Palestinian prisoners and detainees.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Arab Parliament issued a statement on Wednesday warning that this move adds to the record of crimes and violations committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people. It also described the bill as a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law and Geneva conventions, which protect prisoners during conflicts.

The statement emphasized that such legislation reveals an extreme racial mentality within the Israeli occupation and its efforts to legitimize homicide and extrajudicial killings. The Arab Parliament cautioned that the bill represents a significant escalation that endangers the lives of thousands of Palestinian detainees and urged the international community to take immediate action.

The parliament reiterated its call for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the international community to freeze the Knesset's membership in international parliamentary commissions, citing its continuous issuance of unlawful legislations that violate international law. It also urged for the immediate halt of this bill and the provision of international protection for Palestinian detainees.
