5.1-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northern Iran

Doha: An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck Sunday the border area between Golestan and Semnan provinces in northern Iran. The University of Tehran's Seismological Center reported in a statement that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, at a longitude of 54.83 and a latitude of 36.7, along the border between Golestan and Semnan provinces.

According to Qatar News Agency, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake. Iran frequently experiences earthquakes of varying magnitudes due to its location on major fault lines. The deadliest occurred in 1990, when a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the northwest of the country, killing around 37,000 people and injuring over 100,000.
