4.5-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Chile’s Atacama Region

Doha: An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck Chile's Atacama region on Tuesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey stated that the epicenter of the quake was located 104 km from the city of Copiapo in the region, and it occurred at a depth of 104.5 km.

So far, there have been no reports of material damage or human losses as a result of the quake.

Chile is highly prone to earthquakes due to its location along the Ring of Fire. In 2010, a devastating 8.8-magnitude earthquake, followed by a tsunami, struck central and southern Chile, killing around 500 people.
