Doha: An earthquake measuring 4.5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck southeast of Abomsa in central Ethiopia on Monday: The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred 40 kilometers north and 9.553 kilometers east of the town, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to Qatar News Agency, there have been no reports of material damage or human losses as a result of the earthquake. Earthquakes and volcanic activity are both common in Ethiopia, as the country is located in the Main Ethiopian Rift (MER), a geologically active region. The American Geophysical Union (AGU) has recorded more than 67 earthquakes in the area since late December, with the majority concentrated around the Fentale area.
