21st Arab Media Forum Begins in Beirut with Focus on Media’s Role in Sustainable Development

Beirut: The 21st Arab Media Forum commenced in Beirut, Lebanon, under the theme "Media and Sustainable Development: Partners of the Present - Alliance of the Future," drawing attention to the critical role of media in fostering sustainable development.

According to Qatar News Agency, Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun, in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of truth in achieving human goodness. He pointed out that historical anthropic disasters have been driven by delusions and lies, urging media professionals to pursue truth and uphold core values while maintaining financial independence.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, highlighted the crucial connection between media and development, stressing the need for professionalism and responsibility. He noted that media bridges the gap between officials and citizens, enhancing public engagement in development processes. Aboul Gheit reiterated that development remains a top priority for Arab states and societies and that media plays an essential role in this endeavor.

Madi Abdullah Al Khamis, Secretary-General of the Arab Media Forum, remarked that the forum has become a significant platform for shaping awareness and safeguarding truth within the Arab media landscape. He stated that the theme of the forum reflects a vision for a future where development and media go hand-in-hand, moving beyond theoretical discussions to practical applications.

Al Khamis underlined the transformative power of modern media, describing it as a soft power and an invisible weapon that influences minds and shapes collective conscience. He emphasized that today's media is not just a news carrier but a creator of opinions and a beacon of awareness, playing a pivotal role in shaping the nation's collective conscience.
