Dhaka: At least 19 people were killed Monday as a Bangladesh air force training jet crashed in the capital, Dhaka.
According to Qatar News Agency, the military said in a statement that an F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed in the Uttara area, north of the capital, killing at least 19 people and injuring several others. Medical sources in Bangladesh reported that over 50 people, including children and adults, were taken to hospital with burns.
In a related development, head of the interim government of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus, said that necessary measures would be taken to investigate the cause of the accident and ensure the provision of all forms of assistance. He added that the losses suffered by the Air Force, students, parents, teachers, staff, and others in this accident are irreparable.
Initial reports indicate that the aircraft crashed onto the roof of a restaurant in the educational complex that includes a college and a school, according to local media.
