Gaza: The World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Wednesday of a deadly surge in malnutrition-related deaths in the Gaza Strip, confirming that in 2025 alone, the organization has documented 21 deaths related to malnutrition of children under five years old.
According to Qatar News Agency, WHO stated that malnutrition centers are at full capacity without enough supplies for emergency feeding. The hunger crisis is being accelerated by the collapse of aid pipelines and restrictions on UN and humanitarian partners, with Gaza's food stocks depleted since the Israeli occupation cut off all supplies to the Strip last March.
In a related context, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a press conference that the organization has been unable to deliver any food to the Gaza Strip for nearly 80 consecutive days: from early March to mid-May 2025. He emphasized that the resumption of deliveries is still far less than required.
He highlighted that 2.1 million people in Gaza are facing another killer on top of bombs and bullets: starvation, as a sharp rise in diseases linked to malnutrition is now being recorded.
International relief organizations confirm that only very small amounts of food and aid are currently reaching people in Gaza, calling for the immediate lifting of the blockade on the Strip to avoid the worst famine this century has seen.
