Manila: The Egyptian national volleyball team faced a setback with a 3-1 defeat against the Philippines on Tuesday during the second round of Group A at the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship held in Manila, Philippines.
According to Qatar News Agency, the host team took charge of the match early, clinching a close first set at 29-27. Although Egypt managed to rally in the second set, winning it 25-23, the Philippines reclaimed momentum to win the subsequent third and fourth sets, both by a score of 25-21.
Meanwhile, Tunisia also encountered a 3-1 defeat against Iran in the same group, resulting in all four teams being tied in the group standings.
This scenario sets the stage for a critical showdown between Egypt and Tunisia on Thursday. With both teams aiming for a top-two finish in the group to secure advancement to the round of 16, the upcoming match promises to be decisive.
