New york: Major US stock indices closed higher at the end of trading Tuesday on Wall Street.

According to Qatar News Agency, the S and P 500 gained 21.27 points, or 0.30%, to end at 6,849.76 points. The Nasdaq Composite gained 40.42 points, or 0.18%, to 23,454.09. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 415.85 points, or 0.88%, to 47,890.31.
