The United States of America condemned in the strongest terms what it described as human rights violations and “appalling violence” in Sudan during the nearly two-month-old fighting.
Spokesperson for the US Department of State Matthew Miller said the United States was particularly concerned about reports of ethnic violence in West Darfur.
He added that the United States condemns the killing of the governor of West Darfur, Khamis Abakar, last Wednesday.
Fighting in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces has displaced 2.2 million people and killed at least 1,000 people.
Fighting began between the two sides in Khartoum, since April 15, after a dispute over merging their forces within the framework of a new democratic transition.
