According to Qatar News Agency, HE Al Nasr explained that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's speeches before the General Assembly were comprehensive, reflecting Qatar's commitment to peace and international cooperation. His Excellency highlighted that the speeches focused on three main messages amidst current international challenges, such as escalating conflicts, climate change impacts, and food and health security crises.
HE Al Nasr emphasized that the first message was a call for calm, preventive diplomacy, and rejection of force in resolving disputes, especially in regions experiencing wars and conflicts. He reiterated Qatar's firm stance on supporting Palestinian rights and aspirations, urging a return to 1967 UN resolutions and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He noted that the second message underscored the importance of multilateral action and strengthening the UN's role as a unifying platform for peace and sustainable development, highlighting the need for activating the international organization's role amidst mounting challenges.
The third message, as highlighted by HE Al Nasr, focused on Qatar's commitment to supporting development efforts, education, and youth empowerment in the developing world, through national initiatives and institutions.
HE Al Nasr commended Qatar's distinguished position within the UN system, noting its presidency of the 76th Session and numerous responsibilities as a permanent member. He pointed out Qatar's hosting of major international conferences and its humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives as pivotal in strengthening its global influence.
On UN reform, HE Al Nasr stressed the need for urgent reform, particularly regarding the Security Council. He highlighted Qatar's capability to contribute to this process by supporting negotiating tracks for reform and encouraging greater participation of developing countries in UN decision-making. He also mentioned Qatar's support for innovative partnerships between the UN, the private sector, and think tanks.
