UN Security Council Urges Immediate Halt to Sudan Conflict

Doha: In a recent editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper underscored a statement from the United Nations Security Council urging parties involved in the Sudan conflict to immediately cease hostilities, support lasting peace efforts, and ensure the protection of humanitarian personnel in line with international law obligations. The statement has injected renewed momentum into ongoing initiatives aimed at urging the conflicting parties in Sudan to pursue a peaceful resolution to the conflict that has persisted since April 2023 and is nearing its fourth year. The editorial emphasized the crucial importance of prioritizing dialogues to achieve a permanent ceasefire, paving the way for a comprehensive and inclusive political process spearheaded by the Sudanese people.

According to Qatar News Agency, the State of Qatar has consistently advocated for coordinated regional and international efforts to resolve the war through peaceful means within agreed frameworks, such as the Jeddah Declaration. This stance highlights Qatar's commitment to Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and stability, as well as its solidarity with the Sudanese people in their quest for peace, development, and prosperity. Qatar's ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian, relief, and development assistance aim to alleviate the humanitarian suffering endured by the Sudanese populace.

Furthermore, Qatar continues to play a leading role in offering humanitarian and development aid. Through initiatives by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the Education Above All Foundation (EAA), Qatar remains dedicated to empowering communities in Sudan, fostering stable livelihoods, and creating opportunities for a more equitable and prosperous future by empowering women and investing in human capital.

Concluding its editorial, Al-Sharq affirmed Qatar's unwavering support for efforts to encourage all Sudanese parties to prioritize national interests, end the conflict, and build sustainable peace that upholds Sudan's unity and fulfills its people's aspirations for security, stability, and development.
