New york: The UN Security Council issued a unanimous presidential statement reaffirming its strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
According to Qatar News Agency, the statement was issued at the conclusion of a high-level meeting on UN-GCC cooperation, marking the first of its kind. The meeting underscored collaboration on shared challenges, focusing on areas such as maritime security, counterterrorism, and food and water security.
The Council commended the GCC's role in maintaining regional stability through various means such as mediation, preventive diplomacy, technical and financial support, and humanitarian engagement. It also encouraged further strengthening of institutional cooperation with the UN.
Additionally, the statement highlighted the importance of enhancing strategic coordination. This includes ensuring the full participation of women and youth in peace and security initiatives, aligning with UN resolutions 1325 (2000) and 2250 (2015).
