New york: The adoption of the Security Council resolution on Gaza represents a significant step in consolidating the ceasefire, and it is now essential to translate this diplomatic momentum into concrete, urgently required steps on the ground, said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement on Tuesday, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephen Dujarric affirmed that the UN is committed to executing the roles entrusted to it under the resolution, intensifying humanitarian assistance to meet the needs of civilians in Gaza, and backing all efforts to propel the parties toward the next phase of the ceasefire.
Guterres commended the ongoing diplomatic efforts of Qatar, Egypt, Turkiye, the United States, and other regional states, underscoring the importance of advancing to the second phase of the US plan, which would lead to a political process to achieve a two-state solution, in line with previous UN resolutions.
Last night, the UNSC adopted the draft resolution presented by the US concerning the Gaza Strip. The resolution welcomes US President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza, issued on Sept. 29, including the establishment of a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of the Strip.
It also calls for the creation of a reliable pathway enabling the Palestinian people to exercise self-determination and establish the State of Palestine.
