Doha: UN human rights' experts urged full compliance with the International Criminal Court's (ICC) arrest warrants issued against Israeli entity's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former War Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. According to Qatar News Agency, in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the experts emphasized that ICC arrest warrants can help save lives and must be enforced, urging full compliance with the ICC's directives. "The ICC's decision marks a historic step towards justice and accountability, offering hope for ending decades of impunity for long-standing serious violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT)," the experts stated. The experts noted that Israel's continued lack of accountability has been a contributing factor to the escalating and untenable violence in the region. Since October 7, 2023, amid the military aggression on Gaza and other parts of the OPT, the independent experts have received and documented evidenc e of severe violations of international law committed against civilian populations, as per their statement. Welcoming the ICC's decision, the experts reminded states of their legal and moral obligations to uphold international law and punish war criminals. On Thursday, the ICC's Pre-Trial Chamber I unanimously issued two decisions rejecting challenges by the Israeli occupation state under articles 18 and 19 of the Rome Statute. Additionally, it issued warrants of arrest for Netanyahu and Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
