New York, The United Nations (UN) called on all international parties to avoid escalation after Russia announced drills for using non-strategic nuclear weapons.
The various parties begun to talk more and more recently about the issue of the use of nuclear weapons. “Current nuclear risks are at an alarmingly high level. All actions that could lead to miscalculation, escalation with catastrophic consequences must be avoided”, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.
The Russian Ministry of Defense had previously announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin had instructed the General Staff to prepare for exercises on the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons in order to increase the readiness of non-strategic nuclear forces to respond and ensure the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state”.
