Ukrainian President Expects Powerful US Sanctions on Russia

Doha: Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday anticipated that the United States would likely impose robust sanctions on Russia, one day after the European Union had submitted a package of its ninth sanctions to be imposed on Russia.

According to Qatar News Agency, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the numerous Ukrainian proposals that were noted in these European sanctions. He emphasized that Ukraine is anticipating similar actions from the US. The situation underscores Europe's commitment, and the expectation is that the US will follow with powerful sanctions as well.

Zelenskyy mentioned that this issue will be a subject of discussion in an upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The discussion will also cover additional security guarantees for Ukraine. He stressed that Ukraine is ready for any meeting with Russia, whether bilaterally or with the involvement of the US, provided the meeting yields concrete outcomes.

Zelenskyy further remarked that talks should be a means to achieve peace, not just an ineffective exercise. He emphasized that delays in imposing sanctions would not contribute to stability and called for transforming declared political positions into practical and swift actions.
