Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal Submits Resignation Amid Government Reshuffle

Kyiv: Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on Tuesday that he had submitted his resignation letter, marking a significant shift in the country's government as a major reshuffle is anticipated this week. Speculation suggests that Shmyhal might assume a pivotal role in the new government.

According to Qatar News Agency, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has nominated First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko to succeed Shmyhal. Svyrydenko, 39, has been serving as First Deputy Prime Minister since 2021 and has been instrumental in negotiating a mineral agreement with the United States.

Zelenskyy has proposed that Shmyhal, who has been Prime Minister since March 2020, transition to the role of defense minister. The president considers Shmyhal well-suited for this crucial position. This change would see Shmyhal replacing Rustem Umerov, who Zelenskyy recently suggested could be appointed as Ukraine's ambassador to Washington.
