Ukraine: Ukraine said Friday that its territory was hit by fresh Russian strikes just hours before a scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
According to Qatar News Agency, Serhiy Lysak, governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region-which borders active combat zones and is frequently targeted by Russian attacks-said in a post on Telegram that Russia had launched a ballistic missile at the area earlier in the day. The strike injured at least one person and sparked a fire, he said, adding that a truck and a minibus were damaged in the attack on the city of Dnipro, a key logistical hub for Ukrainian forces.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also addressed the escalation on Telegram, saying Moscow continued to target Kyiv ahead of the Alaska summit. He described the renewed offensive in eastern Ukraine as a show of force by Russia, adding, 'This carries many implications.'
There is no sign that Moscow is ready to end the war, Zelensky said, noting that early indicators point to Russia's true intentions.
The strikes come just hours before the anticipated summit in Alaska, where the two presidents are expected to discuss a potential cease-fire agreement in Ukraine.
