UDST and Dolphin Energy Host Zero Waste Hackathon to Promote Sustainability

Doha: University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), in collaboration with Dolphin Energy, hosted a Zero Waste Hackathon as part of UDST's commitment to achieving a Zero Waste Campus by 2027. The event marked a significant step towards sustainability goals for the university, encouraging innovative solutions to waste management.

According to Qatar News Agency, other notable developments included Qatar Charity's new economic empowerment projects in Mauritania, designed to assist vocational training graduates, particularly those from needy families. The Hamad Medical Corporation launched an Oncology Rehabilitation Framework, enhancing cancer care in the region.

Education Above All Foundation announced a collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce Qatar to bolster the "Qatar Connection" platform under the Qatar Scholarship Programme. Meanwhile, Qatar Red Crescent Society completed phase 2 of a livelihood project in northern Syria, aiming to support widows and displaced families through vocational training and cash grants.

Qatar's economy exhibited growth, with the National Planning Council reporting a 3.7% increase in real GDP for the first quarter of 2025. Qatar Airways resumed its full operations to several Middle Eastern countries, and a new daily service was inaugurated between Manila and Doha in partnership with Philippine Airlines.

In the financial sector, Qatar Central Bank issued government bonds and sukuk, while Qatar Energy announced increased fuel prices for July. The Qatar Stock Exchange index also showed a slight gain at the start of the trading week.

Cultural and sports initiatives were also highlighted, with the Fire Station: Artists in Residence preparing for the "Printed Nostalgia" exhibition, and the Qatar Chess Association organizing summer activities. In sports, Umm Salal SC appointed French coach Patrice Carteron, and Al Shamal SC made strategic signings to boost their football team.

Efforts to preserve heritage continued with Qatar National Library's initiatives against the illicit trade of cultural property, reflecting the country's ongoing commitment to cultural preservation.
